Major League Baseball Clubhouse Managers Association (MLBCMA) announces winners of the 2024 Scholarship Award.
In 1993, The Major League Baseball Clubhouse Managers Association was established. A self-funded nonprofit organization to promote higher education for members of its support staff.
Since that time, the Major League Baseball Clubhouse Managers Association (MLBCMA) has awarded over a half million dollars in annual scholarship awards to batboys and assistants. On July 11th, before the All-Star Game in Houston, we awarded our two annual $10,000 scholarships. Additionally, the MLBCMA partnered with the Melvin and Ellen Gordon Family Scholarship to award an additional annual scholarship of $25,000.
During the 2019 MLB All-Star Futures Game in Cleveland, the Major League Baseball Clubhouse Managers Association (MLBCMA) presented the Baseball Assistance Team (B.A.T.) with a contribution of $100,000.00. This year on July 10th, before the Home Run Derby in Seattle the Major League Baseball Clubhouse Managers Association (MLBCMA) presented the Baseball Assistance Team (B.A.T.) with a contribution of $250,000.00 payable over five years.

Through the efforts of its membership, the Major League Clubhouse Managers Association Scholarship Fund was established in 1993. Over time, the fund has evolved to promote higher education for members of their support staff and is available to all Major League clubhouse attendants, bat boys, ball boys, and ball girls. Over $500,000 scholarships have been provided since its inception. In 2023, the Association teamed up with Tootsie Roll CEO, Ellen Gordon to create the Melvin and Ellen Gordon Family Scholarship which will provide an additional $25,000 scholarship.
ELIGIBILITY
Winners will be selected on the basis of school grades, accomplishments, leadership and financial need. The MLBCMA Scholarship Fund Review Committee will evaluate all applications in June and announce recipients at the Major League Baseball All-Star Game.
THE SELECTION PROCESS
The Scholarship Fund Review Committee will evaluate all applications submitted. Two $10,000 scholarships are awarded annually, one for each league. In addition, the Committee will also announce a $25,000 award from Melvin and Ellen Gordon Family Scholarship. Factors considered are financial need, academics, community activities, and character. The Scholarship Fund Review Committee may interview applicants or request additional information or clarification of information submitted with the application.
REQUIREMENTS
- High School graduate with a minimum 3.5 G.P.A.
- Completed application form, below.
- Copy of transcripts and G.P.A.
- Name and mailing address of the educational institution you will attend.
- Letter about yourself and your experience as a bat boy, ball boy, ball girl or clubhouse attendant.
- Letter of recommendation from your sponsoring Clubhouse Manager.
- Three references – please include name, address, email address and telephone number. Should NOT include your Clubhouse Manager.
- List of professional, trade, business, athletic, volunteer or civic activities you would like the Scholarship Fund Review Committee to consider. May exclude memberships which would reveal sex, race, religion, origin, age, ancestry, handicap or other protected status.
- Deadline for receipt of application: June 30, 2024.
